The Thomas family has four children, two of whom, Evelyn and Bennett are in public charter school with Great Hearts.
Please share your current model of schooling and some of the reasons why you chose this option for your family.
Classical charter. We wanted a classical liberal arts education for our kids and feel blessed to have a charter in our community!
Why do you feel this model of schooling best meets the needs of your children? How have you seen them grow and thrive in this environment?
Our kids are thriving in an environment in which teachers lead their students to pursue the true, good, and beautiful together by studying the best of Western culture and developing curious minds. I’ve been amazed at how well they already incorporate history, literature, and the arts learned in school into their everyday conversations—I believe this is true literacy. In a society where we are constantly bombarded by media, I’m thankful their school days are devoted to the Great Books and great ideas of
antiquity.
How do you feel living in Arizona and the school options you have in Arizona have helped your children in their academic and life pursuits?
We are SO BLESSED in Arizona to have so many choices! I feel so grateful to know that if our needs should ever change, there are so many other options available.
What do you love the most about your current school environment for your kids? What advice do you have for other families considering this option?
Classical education gives our children back some of what we have lost in our modern tech-obsessed era—namely, the wisdom of the ages. Yes, it is a lot of work. Learning the value of hard work is an added benefit to the classical model!
